Multiplier ladders, studio by studio

NetEnt: the original ladder

Gonzo's Quest, released in 2011, set the pattern that the word avalanche still means. The base game ladder is 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x; Free Falls raise it to 3x, 6x, 9x, 15x. Each consecutive winning avalanche moves one step; the first non-winning arrangement ends the chain and the next spin starts at the bottom. Free Falls are triggered by three or more scatters and add ten spins per trigger.

Thunderkick: the tall ladder

Esqueleto Explosivo runs a ladder from 1x up to 32x on a five-by-three grid of singing skulls, with an Explosivo wild that clears its eight neighbours and keeps the drop going. Its sequel adds a free spin round where the ladder starts higher. A tall ladder rewards the rare long chain far more than a short one.

Games Global: the ladder on paylines

Immortal Romance uses Rolling Reels in Michael's free spins with a ladder to 5x. The game is a classic five-reel, 243-ways design, and the cascade is confined to one of its four bonus modes, which makes it the easiest place to see a ladder against a familiar background.

Multiplier orbs

Pragmatic Play's tumble games put the multiplier on the symbols instead of on a ladder. In Gates of Olympus a multiplier orb worth between 2x and 500x can land on any tumble. In the base game every orb on screen when the chain ends is added together and applied to that spin's total. In free spins the orb values go into a running total that is applied to every winning tumble for the rest of the round, so a 100x orb on spin two of fifteen multiplies every later win. Sweet Bonanza uses the same design with candy bombs of 2x to 100x, and Gates of Olympus 1000 and Sweet Bonanza 1000 raise the orb ceiling and the volatility.

Orbs change what a chain is for. A long chain with no orbs pays its plain wins; a two-step chain with a 250x orb pays more than most sessions. The shelf is sorted accordingly: orb games sit above ladders and below counters at CascadeReels.

Counters: multipliers without a ceiling

Big Time Gaming's Bonanza counts reactions in free spins. Every reaction adds one to the multiplier and nothing ever resets it until the round ends, so the multiplier at the end of a round equals the number of winning reactions in it plus one. Extra Chilli and Buffalo Rising Megaways use the same counter. BGaming's Bonanza Billion applies the idea to cluster wins: multiplier symbols stay on the grid through a chain and are added together when it ends. Counters produce multipliers no ladder reaches, and they produce them rarely, which is why the counter shelf carries the highest stake floor in the lobby.

The right-hand column is the practical one. A ladder game's maximum needs a long chain; an orb game's maximum needs the right symbols; a counter game's maximum needs a long round. Knowing which you are waiting for tells you how to read a quiet session.

Base game and bonus: where the cascades live

Every game at CascadeReels cascades in the base game, but the multiplier often does not. Gonzo's Quest runs its base ladder to 5x and its bonus ladder to 15x. Gates of Olympus adds orbs in the base game for one spin and carries them for a round in free spins. Bonanza does not multiply base-game reactions at all; the counter exists only in free spins. The game page states where the multiplier is active, because a game with a base-game multiplier plays very differently from one that saves it for the bonus, even when the cascades look identical.

Games with growing multipliers

Gates of Olympus (Pragmatic Play)

Six-by-five scatter pays, orbs to 500x, 15 free spins with retriggers, 100x feature buy where permitted.

Sweet Bonanza (Pragmatic Play)

The same design in candy, bombs to 100x, ten free spins, 100x buy.

Gonzo's Quest (NetEnt) and Gonzo's Quest Megaways (Red Tiger)

The ladder on fixed reels and the ladder on Megaways reels. The Megaways version raises the top step and the volatility.

Bonanza and Extra Chilli (Big Time Gaming)

The unlimited counter, with Extra Chilli adding Feature Drop at 50x.

Bonanza Billion (BGaming)

Cluster cascades with combined multiplier symbols, the gentlest counter design in the lobby.

Reactoonz (Play'n GO)

Not a multiplier design at all: cascades charge a meter toward features. Listed at CascadeReels for players who want cascades without multiplier maths.

Temple Tumble 2 Dream Drop (Relax Gaming)

Tumbles clear stone blocks and add spins rather than multipliers, with a Dream Drop jackpot attached.

The multiplier line, quoted

Each shelf at CascadeReels is defined by one sentence in the paytable, and the three sentences are worth knowing by sight.

  • Ladder. "The multiplier increases with each consecutive avalanche: 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x." A fixed list with a top value. Any non-winning avalanche resets it.
  • Orbs. "Multiplier symbols can land on any tumble. At the end of the tumble sequence, the values of all multiplier symbols on screen are added and applied to the total win." No ladder, no cap per spin beyond the symbols themselves.
  • Counter. "During free spins, the win multiplier increases by one with every reaction and does not reset." No list and no top.

A paytable that says "up to" before a number is a ladder or a capped counter; one that says "no limit" is the real counter; one that talks about symbols landing is orbs. The three sentences sort any cascading game in the lobby, and the shelf follows.

A session on each shelf

Ladder: Gonzo's Quest, 200 spins

Wins on 106 of 200 spins, most at 1x or 2x. Chains of three or more avalanches on 17 spins, the best at 5x for 19 stakes. One Free Falls round on spin 128 returned 46 stakes with the ladder reaching 15x twice. Closing balance: 97 stakes. The base game carried the session and the bonus topped it up.

Orbs: Gates of Olympus, 200 spins

Wins on 74 of 200 spins. Orbs landed on 22 spins; the largest base-game orb was 25x on a chain worth 31 stakes. No free spins. Closing balance: 66 stakes. The session waited for a round that did not come, which is normal for the orb shelf, and it is the reason the shelf carries a two-hundred-stake floor.

Counter: Bonanza, 200 spins

Wins on 82 of 200 spins, none above nine stakes. No free spins. Closing balance: 58 stakes. The unlimited multiplier exists only in a round that did not trigger, and the base game gave back what a counter game's base game gives back, which is not much. Five hundred stakes is the floor because sessions like this one are the ordinary case.

Bankroll by design

  • Ladder games. Frequent small wins, capped chains. A hundred stakes is comfortable.
  • Orb games. Wins depend on symbols landing; free spins decide the session. Two hundred stakes, more for the 1000 editions.
  • Counter games. Rare, long free spin rounds carry the return. Five hundred stakes is the floor.

CascadeReels prints the floor beside the maximum win on every game page so the two are read together.

Bonuses and wagering

Every promotion at CascadeReels shows its wagering requirement, game weighting and stake cap while the bonus is active. Cascading games count in full toward wagering unless the offer says otherwise. Orb and counter rounds can move a bonus balance far in one spin, and a stake above the cap voids the bonus, so the cap is the first line to read. Free spin awards are tied to a named game at a fixed stake. Cashback, where offered, is calculated on net losses over the stated period.

Cashier

Balances are in EUR. Deposits by Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, Trustly and paysafecard are credited on confirmation. Withdrawals return to cards, e-wallets or bank transfer after identity and address verification; e-wallets are released first, and paysafecard cannot receive payouts.

  • Trustly. Bank payments without card details.
  • paysafecard. Prepaid deposits only.

Phone play and safer play

The lobby runs in a phone browser without an app, and the multiplier display sits above the grid in portrait. Stake controls are behind a menu icon; confirm the stake before the first cascade. Deposit limits, loss limits, session reminders, time-outs and self-exclusion are in account settings, with lower limits taking effect at once. CascadeReels is for adults of legal gambling age; independent help is available from Gamblers Anonymous (https://www.gamblersanonymous.org).

Support

The help centre at CascadeReels quotes each game's multiplier line from the paytable and explains it, and covers verification, withdrawals, limits and bonus terms on their own pages. The support team is reached by chat or contact form from the account menu; account matters are handled only with the verified holder.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a ladder and a counter?

A ladder has fixed steps and a top; a counter adds one per cascade with no top. Gonzo's Quest is a ladder, Bonanza a counter.

Do orbs in Gates of Olympus carry between spins?

In the base game, no. In free spins, every orb's value is added to a total that applies for the rest of the round.

Which design suits a small balance?

Ladders. They pay small amounts often and cap the chain.

Are cascades the same as cluster pays?

No. Cascades are the refill; cluster pays is one of the win rules a cascading game can use.

Can I test each design in demo?

Yes. Every game opens in demo without an account at the same RTP version as real play.

Play twenty spins each of Gonzo's Quest, Gates of Olympus and Bonanza in demo and watch what the multiplier does. Pick the design that suited the session, set a deposit limit, and play. CascadeReels adds new cascading titles to the shelf their multiplier belongs on.
